COMMUNITY SERVICE

Community service and Girl Scouting go hand in hand. From the Girl Scout promise (“to help other people at all times”) to the Girl Scout Law (“I will do my best to make the world a better place and be a sister to every Girl Scout”) to the Girl Scout Program Goal of “contributing to society,” girls are learning the philanthropic attitudes and values that will carry over into their adult years.

Engaging in community service activities strengthens social interaction, learning, and life skills. Community service not only helps others, but also helps those who practice it. Through supporting a cause she believes in, a girl or young woman has as much to gain as to give.

Giving service without expectations of payment or reward encourages girls to develop qualities of responsible citizenship. A girl’s service to the community and to her own religious group, as well as positive interaction with her family and friends, is used to lay a foundation for responsible action as a woman.
