GIRL SCOUTS OF THE USA (GSUSA)
"Come right over," said Juliette Gordon Low to her cousin, "I have something for the girls of Savannah, and all the country and we're going to start tonight."
Juliette "Daisy" Gordon Low assembled 18 girls from Savannah, Georgia, on March 12, 1912, for a local Girl Scout meeting. She believed that all girls should be given the opportunity to develop physically, mentally, and spiritually. With the goal of bringing girls out of isolated home environments and into community service and the open air, Girl Scouts hiked, played basketball, went on camping trips, learned how to tell time by the stars, and studied first aid.
From an initial 18 girls in 1912, Girl Scouts has grown to a girl and adult membership of over 3.5 million today, making it the largest organization for girls in the world.
Girl Scouts is the world's preeminent organization dedicated solely to girls--all girls--where in an accepting and nurturing environment, girls build character and skills for success in the real world. In partnership with committed adults, girls develop qualities that will serve them all their lives--like strong values, social conscience, and conviction about their own potential and self-worth.
In Girl Scouts, girls discover the fun, friendship, and power of girls together. Through the many enriching experiences provided by the Girl Scouts, they can grow courageous and strong.
GIRL SCOUTS OF ERIE SHORES
Girl Scouts of Erie Shores, an independent not-for-profit corporation, is one of more than 300 councils across the country, chartered by Girl Scouts of the USA (GSUSA) to develop, manage, and maintain Girl Scouts in a specific geographic area. The council was chartered in 1964 as a result of a merger of three smaller councils. Guided by a volunteer Board of Directors, the council is regularly evaluated by its membership and GSUSA to ensure that girls receive the highest quality program.
Serving over 12,000 girls and 3,000 adults in Erie, Huron, Lorain, Sandusky, and Seneca counties, the council is rich in geographic diversity. Fertile farmlands, busy urban areas and a portion of Ohio's north coast make up the council's landscape.
Council Service Center
The Council Service Center houses adminstrative functions, meeting and training rooms, and Juliette’s Treasures, the Girl Scout Shop. For hours of operation, click here.
Camps
The council also manages three beautiful camps. Available for year-round use, the properties offer a variety of both daytime and overnight adventures.
